70-year-old woman awarded compensation after road accident

Traffic Injury Claim – Case Study

A 70-year-old woman has been awarded more than £10,000 compensation for injuries she suffered in a road accident caused by a negligent driver.

The woman was stationary in her car when it was hit at speed by another vehicle and shunted forwards by three to four feet.

She suffered injuries to her neck and left knee, which took two years to fully heal. She was unable to walk for two months and had to undergo surgery.

Four months after the accident, the pain in her knee was still severe and she needed a walking stick to help her with even the smallest movement. She had to undergo hydrotherapy for the pain in her neck.

Because of her injuries, she was unable to visit the gym, which she had previously attended five times a week. She was also unable to carry out household chores or enjoy her hobby of gardening. She also suffered from travel anxiety.

The woman took legal action against the driver of the other vehicle, claiming that he was negligent in driving at high speed and colliding with her car. He admitted liability.

The court awarded her total damages of £10,385 to compensate her for pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
