Cyclist injured by reversing car awarded £15,000 compensation

A man who was injured when he was hit by a reversing car as he cycled along a main road has been awarded more than £15,000 compensation.

Just before the accident happened, the car had overtaken the cyclist and turned right into the driveway of a house. As the cyclist approached the house, the driver of the car suddenly reversed across his path causing the collision.

The cyclist suffered a broken shoulder, lower back injury, a punctured lung and rib fractures. He later developed travel anxiety. He was off work for 35 days and required care and assistance following the accident. He was unable to run or cycle for four months and all his domestic activities were affected for one month.

The injuries were expected to heal within 21 months of the accident.

The cyclist took legal action, claiming that the driver was negligent in failing to keep a proper look-out. The driver admitted liability and agreed to an out-of-court settlement of £15,417.
